The Massachusetts Organization of African Descendants, also known as MOAD, is a coalition of volunteer members from diverse African nations living in Worcester, including African businesses, restaurants, churches and individuals.

OUR HISTORY
Established in 2020, the Massachusetts Organization of African Descendants (MOAD) is a coalition of members from diverse African nations living in Worcester, organized to address systemic socioeconomic issues impacting the African community. From May- June 2020, MOAD reached 18 African businesses, including churches and African Restaurants in COVID-19 distribution of PPE supplies, masks, gloves, and COVID education. MOAD was also instrumental in the 2020 Census count by partnering with Partnership Specialist from the U.S Census Bureau to provide outreach to more than 20 locations in the African community.
OUR MISSION
To unite all people of African descent under a coalition for the advancement of socio-economic, cultural and educational interest by promoting shared understanding and values for the development of a strong sustainable community of peoples of African descent residing in the United States and to promote the good relations between Africa and the United States of America. We are also dedicated to promoting good leadership based on equality, justice, and progress of members of the Organization.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to establish an organization that empowers, advocates and foster leadership skills and responsible citizenship for its members.

AFRICANS IN WORCESTER

Worcester’s African immigrants make up 21% of Worcester’s foreign-born population of roughly 38,000, and with nearly a quarter coming from 15 African countries (Seven Hills, 2015).

The different countries represented in the African community in Worcester are Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, and Tanzania (ACE, 2020).
